Single-leaf apron from Ellinochori. Ιn earlier times, aprons were woven, either single-paneled, called zampratses, or double-paneled, known as brosneles. The aprons took their names from the designs embroidered on the horizontal colored bands. Long ago, the single-paneled aprons were considered formal, and the double-paneled ones were for everyday use. However, over time, this was reversed — the single-paneled aprons gradually disappeared, and instead of woven fabric for the double-paneled ones, store-bought materials such as satin, velvet, and atlas silk began to be used, often adorned with lace and trimmings.
